SWGU ground breaking for new development

On August 7, 2024 South West Georgia United held a ground breaking ceremony for a new project for the West side of Cordele at the 500th block of 25th Avenue West. in Cordele. Marlene Kimball was there to represent the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce and gave the opening remarks. Invocation was done by Pastor James Patterson. We heard from Executive Director of SWGU, Robert Cooke on the project. Commissioner Vesta Beal-Shephard gave remarks and welcome from the City of Cordele.
This project is Christian Home Apartments, and is the first step in re-imagining West Cordele. Christian Home Apartments will consist of 24 united of affordable rental housing, consisting of twelve duplex structures and a community building that will house a community room and computer lab. Each unit consists of modern appliances, central heat and air, modern features and amenities. The units will be subsidized to meet the needs of our affordable housing community.
This entire project is being financed through the USDA Farm Labor Housing programs, section 514 (loans) and Section 516 (grants).
