On July 10th through the 14th the Cordele First UMC youth/students travelled down to Tifton to take part in a mission trip called the “River of Life”. They stayed at the ABAC dorms, and worked over the 5 days in two groups. Their focus on the trip was cleaning and updating facilities. One group worked at the local men’s homeless shelter named Brother Charlie’s Rescue Center. This facility houses men from around the Tifton area, and supplies these men with a place to stay, meals, chapel services, and much more. The group spent threes days cleaning, sanitizing and repainting the facility both inside and out. The other groups worked at a church called Herring Memorial United Methodist Church. This group pressure washed and painted the outside of the church, as well as painted their Sunday school rooms. They also had the opportunity to test their pest control skills, as they got rid of a squirrel infestation at the church. Kody Franks, the Youth Pastor at Cordele First UMC said, “We had a great time connecting with and worshipping with the other churches that attended as well.” On the last evening of worship, the residents of Brother Charlie’s joined in for the service.
