On Wednesday, November 20,2024, a Crisp County jury found Katrina White (fomerly Helms) guilty of Aggravated Assault, Family Violence and Possession of a knife during the commission of a Felony in Crisp County Superior Court following a two-day jury trial before Judge T. Christopher Hughes. Judge Hughes deferred sentencing until a later date and permitted White to remain out of jail on bond.

White, 49, of Collierville, Tennessee, assaulted her then-husband, John Helms, Jr. with a knife on October 15, 2020. During the attack White cut Helms with a knife that contained a six inch blade struck him about the head with a dog leash, and pointed a loaded shotgun at his head.

Mr. Helms injuries included a laceration and scratches to his left arm and knots on his head. Assistant District Attorney Lauren Warbington Fletcher represented the State of Georgia in the trail of the case, which was investigated by Crisp County Sheriff’s Office. White was represented by Dustin Land of Ashburn, Georgia.
