The Crisp County Community is excited to get the word out about an upcoming opportunity to help folks in need. The Cordele First Church Outreach Mission Team is coordinating a Community Health Fair with other churches, professionals, and organizations to reach out to our neighbors with needs of various kinds, e.g. spiritual, health, dental, social, emotional and physical. The Health Fair is planned for July 10-12 of this year, more specifically Thursday 10 (5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.), Friday 11 (9 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and on the morning of Saturday 12 (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.). It will take place in the parking lot and activities center of Cordele First Church (302 East 12th Ave.) at those times.
For dental needs, Dental Partners, Family Dentistry of Cordele and Baptist Mobile Health will provide fillings and extractions. In addition, vouchers will be available for free dental cleanings at the Albany Technical College Dental Hygiene school in the fall. Our local Lion’s Club and Georgia Lighthouse Foundation will be present to provide vision screenings and follow up eyecare and glasses if needed. Phoebe Putney Hospital, our Public Health Department and Crisp Regional Hospital will be able to provide some basic screenings for adults and children, and to give information on prescription drugs and on how to respond to an injury in an agricultural or construction setting. We greatly appreciate the encouragement we have received from a number of supporters, including St. Paul Chapel at Dooly Campground, Open Hearts Thrift Store and Ministry in Vienna, Sunday School classes and members of Cordele First Church, Inspired Wealth Planning, Cordele Crisp Community League, Kiwanis Club, State Farm Insurance, Crisp County Power Commission, South Georgia Banking Company, Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce, Pinecrest and Penia Churches. With their help, we expect to be able to provide the following: inspections and free car seats/booster seats for child safety, Bibles for children and adults, and help with overall expenses. There will be meals for participants and volunteers, and the fair will provide some food bags for families though our local Soul Food Ministry program.
We also plan to have information available from the following agencies: Department of Family and Children Services (food stamps, Medicaid, foster care and adoption), Health Department (general health and preventive services), Children’s Medical Services (information for children with special needs), State Office of Rural Health (gift bags and other available resources), Crisp County Sheriff (Narcan and Fentanyl information), Celebrate Recovery (information on program and ways to get connected), Ashley Deadwyler-Heumans Law Firm (immigration services), and Daybreak Pregnancy Center (information and services for new mothers and infants).
Two years ago, we welcomed and fed about 600 volunteers, providers and participants over the three days, and we are hopeful and prayerful that we will be able to meet the needs of our community again this year. We would greatly appreciate any efforts to let people know about this special event. For more information, contact the Cordele First Church office (229-273-4586) or Loida Waters (229-938-3905).
