CORDELE — Christmas is just around the corner and in an effort to see that no child goes without this season the Prevent Child Abuse Crisp (PCAC) is sponsoring their annual Adopt an Angel program.
“Over 1,000 children were serviced last year through the Adopt an Angel program,” said Lelee Phinney who is vice president of PCAC. “This year we hope to service that many or even more.”
Phinney said anyone interested in making a donation can drop off their unwrapped, new toys at any one of the red donation boxes around town. For those that do not have time to shop an Adopt an Angel account is also set up at Planters First Bank and monetary donations can be made there.
“All of the donations collected are distributed right here in Crisp County,” said Phinney.
Volunteers will be at the Cordele Lions Club collecting and sorting toys on Friday, December 11 from 2 PM until 6 PM and Saturday, December 12 from 10 AM until 12 noon. Toys will be distributed on December 16 and 17.
“We are grateful to everyone that has helped with the continued success of this program,” said Phinney. “The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office and Cordele Police Department always provide security for collections and the toy giveaway and interim police Chief Lewis Greene loans us executive assistant Lisa Odom to participate as well.”
Phinney said it is their hope that through the Adopt an Angel program, no child will be without a toy on Christmas morning.
