Lady Wildcats sweep Gatewood, advance in playoffs

EATONTON—The Crisp Academy softball team started the GISA AA playoffs on the road at Gatewood on Tuesday afternoon. CA easily swept Gatewood in the best of three series with wins of 13-2 and 16-1.

Crisp Academy scored in all five innings in the game one run-rule victory.
Mia Purvis was the top contributor in the batting lineup for the Lady Cats with three hits in four at bats and two runs scored in game one. CA outfielder Eliza Hill finished the game with two hits, three runs scored and one RBI. Other game one batting lineup contributors: Sadie Mercer (one walk, one RBI, one run scored), Maddie Reed (one hit, three walks, one RBI, three runs scored), Haley Odom (one hit, one walk, one RBI, one run), Erika Mauldin (one hit, two runs), and Emily West (one hit, two walks, one run, one RBI).
Libby Manning picked up the win in the circle with five innings pitched, one unearned run on three hits with five strikeouts.

CA took game two 16-1 in just three innings with three runs in the first inning, four in the second and nine in the third.

Allie McPherson- one walk, one run scored (Abigail Brown later drew two walks, stole a base and scored a run after subbing in for McPherson’s spot in the lineup) 8. Mauldin- two walks, two runs scored 9. Emily West- one hit (Savannah Malone scored a run in West’s spot in the lineup)
Manning picked up the game two win as well with three innings pitched, one unearned run on one Gatewood hit and on walk while striking out four batters.

The Lady Wildcats will be on the road for the second round of the playoffs as well. They will travel to Warrenton to take on Briarwood Academy (16-4) in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday afternoon.
