Lady Cougars close regular season with road win over Marion

BUENA VISTA— The Crisp County High School softball team finished up regular season play with an 11-4 win on the road against Marion County on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Cougars took complete control of the game in the top of the first inning by scoring eight runs.
Megan Bloodworth led off the contest with a solo home run to deep left field, and Riley Blampied followed with a two-run home run after a walk by Kirin Webb. Olivia Taylor, Peyton Bozeman and Ainslee Forsythe all subsequently picked up singles to load up the bases with two outs in the frame.
The next Crisp County run came on a Shelbi Cobb RBI single that scored Taylor and Bozeman for a 5-0 lead. Bloodworth then hit her second home run of the game, a three-run shot this time, for the 8-0 Crisp County lead going into the bottom half of the first inning.
Marion County scored one run in each of the first three innings to bring the score out to 8-3, but the Lady Cougars tacked on insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings to extend their lead.
Bloodworth scored the fourth inning run after a hit by Jo Brady that brought the score out to 9-3 in favor of Crisp, and the two runs in the top of the sixth came on Bloodworth’s third home run of the game to stretch the lead out to 11-3.
Marion tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring in the contest, and Crisp won by the final score of 11-4.
Rilee Duckworth was in the circle for the Lady Cougars and closed out the contest with seven innings pitched in which she gave up just two earned runs on six hits and six walks.
Bloodworth finished the game with the three home runs for a total of six RBIs and four total runs scored. Cobb had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs.
The Lady Cougars finished the regular season with a 19-3 overall record and will be hosting a best of three series against Central Macon (12-10) in the first round of the playoffs. The games were initially scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, but the first two games of the series will now be taking place on Tuesday afternoon at 5 and 7 p.m due to weather concerns.
