Crisp County Sheriff and Emergency Management Director Billy Hancock issued a statement regarding Hurricane Florence and Georgia Governor Nathan Deal’s recent declaration of a state of emergency for all 159 of the state’s counties.

Hancock said there is still a lot of uncertainty as to where the hurricane will make landfall, but the Crisp County Emergency Management Team is watching the storm closely and tracking projected paths that the storm may take as it approaches the East Coast.

Hancock said the facts as of Wednesday, September 12 at 2 p.m. are:

• Florence is currently a category 4 storm with winds reaching 130 mph
• Current forecasts tend to show more impacts to Georgia than previously reported
• Prolonged rainfall can be expected over large portions of the state
• By the time the storm reaches land windspeeds should be ‘low to moderate’
• The threat of heavy rainfall and possible flooding is considered ‘moderate’
• The threat of tornados is ‘low’
• The onset duration of weather-related hazards across Georgia are still be adjusted as conditions continue to evolve.
