CRISP COUNTY- August 20, 2018 Jermall Romine Burks Jr. 20-year-old male resident of Cordele, Georgia was arrested Monday, August 20, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. As the investigation from this morning’s shooting unfolded, evidence lead authorities to Jermall Burks Jr. At 10:52 a.m. Crisp County Communications/E911 received a phone call from a male subject disclosing that a 20-year-old female suffered an apparent gunshot wound in the abdomen at 1712 S 10th Street Cordele, Georgia. The victim was transported to Crisp Regional Hospital by Crisp County EMS. Multiple agencies responded to initiate an investigation and began canvasing the neighborhood. Crisp County Sheriff’s office reached out to the Department of Natural Resources for their K-9 Trigg that specializes in article finding. K-9 Trigg located a firearm in the backyard of the residence. After the article was located interviews with Burks lead to a confession that he shot Marecia Adams, a 20-yearold female, a resident of Byromville, Georgia. Jermall Romine Burks Jr. is charged with; Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, False Report of a Crime, Giving False Statements and Writing to Law Enforcement, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Firearm during Commission of a Crime, and Tampering with Evidence. Further charges are pending as the investigation continues. Sheriff Hancock states, “The quick apprehension of Burks would not have been possible without teamwork and efforts put forth by everyone involved. I would like to thank the other agencies that assisted today personally; Cordele Police Department, Crisp County EMS, Georgia State Patrol Post 30, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Crisp County District Attorney’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation.”
