CORDELE – A memorial service for Jean Smith Ruis of Cordele will be Sunday, August 19, 2018 at 2:30 at Cordele First United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the church.

Jean passed away Friday, August 17, 2018 at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Ben Ruis. Born in Crisp County, she was the daughter of the late Charley Edward Smith and Myrtle Briley Smith.  She was a Medical Office Assistant and an active member of Cordele First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Wesley-Fellowship class and a former 2nd grade Sunday School teacher. Jean served on the Crisp Regional Hospital Auxiliary for approximately 20 years.  She enjoyed playing bridge, the outdoors in her garden and fishing.

Her first love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Billy and Betty Ruis and Charles and Barbara Ruis, all of Cordele;  five grandchildren; Charla (Clint) Culpepper, LeAnn Ruis (Shane) Lee, Brandi (Tom)Ruis Sawyer, John (Kari) Bodrey and  Chris Bodrey; and five great-grandchildren; Shelby Lee, Alicia Lee, Ally Bodrey, CJ Culpepper, Will Sawyer.
