Sheriff Hancock speaks at Georgia Jail Association Awards Banquet

CORDELE, GA – The Georgia Jail Association (GJA) is hosting its 31st Annual Summer Training Conference, June 3-7, 2018, at the Lake Blackshear Resort and Golf Club located at 2459-H US Highway 280 West in Cordele, Georgia.
The five-day conference includes professional training classes, a vendor trade show, prayer luncheon with a memorial tribute for fallen officers and the annual awards banquet honoring excellence in the corrections profession.
“This is the first time in the Georgia Jail Association’s history that its annual conference has
been held in Cordele and we are excited to have Sheriff Hancock join us as our special guest this year as we present the state’s highest honors in corrections,” said Chief Patrick Labat, president of the Georgia Jail Association and administrator of the City of Atlanta Department of Corrections. “We have a dynamic lineup of panel
speakers and workshop presenters at this year’s conference and encourage corrections and law enforcement professionals attending GJA’s annual meeting to take advantage of the invaluable training and networking opportunities offered this week.”
The awards banquet is the culminating event for GJA’s Summer Training Conference. The
state’s Correctional Officer of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, Civilian of the Year and Jail
Administrator of the Year awards will be presented at the annual banquet at 6:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Lake Blackshear Resort.
Training topics presented at the 2018 conference include but are not limited to: Gang
Identification and Documentation of Gang Members; Dealing with Aggressive Inmate Behaviors; the
American Disabilities Act as it pertains to Inmates; Stress Management/Self Care; and Jail Health
Care/Mental Health. Conferees attending the training sessions will earn Georgia Peace Officer
Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) continuing education credit.
