Nell Clark Dorough

TALLAHASSEE — After living a full life of 101 years, Nell Clark Dorough, formerly of Cordele, Georgia, passed away peacefully early on July 24, 2017 in Tallahassee, Florida. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Nell was born on September 1, 1915 in Forsyth County, Georgia, to William E. and Fannie Rider Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James D. (‘Ted’) Dorough and her daughter Reba Dorough Mitchell. She is survived by her daughter Janet Dorough Stanton of Tallahassee, FL., her son-in-law Julius Mitchell of Byron, Ga., three grandchildren: Emma Elizabeth (‘Beth’) Sumners (Dwight), Christopher J. Mitchell (Karyn), and William R. Stanton III (Brooke), and six great grandchildren: Tyler, Lauren, Taylor, Liam, Bailey, and Ruby Jane.

Nell and her husband Ted were charter members of Peavy Memorial United Methodist Church in Cordele, where they dedicated many hours to the formation of the church and its congregation. Nell was known to many as “Miss Nell” and had a love for gardening, cooking, and hosting her friends and family. After she lost her husband, she spent many days with her daughter Reba while at Cordelia Manor. In 2013, she relocated to Tallahassee, where she enjoyed many meals and outings with her daughter, grandchildren, and beloved great grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Hughes and Wright funeral home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Linda Osborne officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Peavy Memorial United Methodist Church, 904 North Hickory Street, Cordele, GA 31015 or your favorite charity in memory of Nell.
