Joycelyn McKie Peavy

PINEVIEW – Joycelyn McKie Peavy, 82, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Mossy Oak Assisted Living under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.                                                                                

     A native of Wilcox  County  and former resident of Pineview, GA,  Joycelyn had resided in Jesup for the past ten years and was a homemaker. She  was born March 15, 1935 to the late Thelma and Marvin McKie and was the oldest of four children.

     Joycelyn  was an active member of Jesup  First Baptist  Church where she attended the  Deborah-Esther Sunday School Class, participated in VBS and special ministries and  helped prepare children’s choir snacks regularly.  She believed in staying busy and lived an active lifestyle.  Joycelyn  was part of the walking club at Calvary Baptist Church and  loved cooking and caring for her family.  She  was famous for her fruit cakes and adored her  grandchildren who were the apple of her eye.

     In addition to her parents , she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-five years, Royce B. Peavy, her son, Glenn R. Peavy and her infant sister, Roselyn McKie.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Peavy Meredith  and husband, Lee of Abbeville, GA and Sarah Peavy Allen and husband,  Sid of Jesup, two brothers, Randall  McKie and wife, Toni  of Boynton Beach, FL and Kenneth McKie and wife, Marty of Rochelle, GA and three grandchildren,  Meagan Gentry and husband, Jess of Bonifay, FL and  Zach Allen and Sydney Allen of Jesup.  Numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members also survive.

     Funeral services will be at 11:00 on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Jesup with Reverend Earl Barron officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.

     Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Deborah-Esther Sunday School Class.

     Interment will be at 4:00 p.m. in Morningside Cemetery, Rochelle, GA.
