The Crisp County Cougars baseball took a trip Thursday evening over to Ellaville and took on Schley County. In the first game between the two schools JV squads the Wildcats came out on top 11-7.

In the nightcap the Varsity Cougars fell short in the bottom of the 7^th inning 8-7. After a controversial call at third place resulted in one out instead of two a pass ball plated the winning run. The Cougars jumped out to 2-1 lead in the contest as the starting pitcher Myles “nappy” Napier kept the Wildcats of balance with his speed in the upper 80’s most of the evening. Nappy went 3 and two-thirds innings giving up one hit, 7 walks, 4 runs and striking out 5. He was relieved by Will Lanneau who finished the last 3 and a third innings striking out 2, walking 3 and giving up 5 hits and 4 runs as the Cougars lost for the 2^nd time to last years final four squad from Schley. The Cougars were led on offense by Napier who went 3 for 4. He was followed closely by Russ Taunton who went 2 for 3 and Dee Purdy who collected 2 hits as well. “ This was by far our best effort of the year and we made mistakes but I see some positive coming out of this game,” said Head Coach Bill Pate. Earlier in the week the Cougars took a shellacking from a visiting Perry squad only to regroup and put up a contest against a very good Schley County team. The Cougars have not backed down from the caliber of teams they play every year even in a rebuilding year. These high quality opponents should pay big dividends for them, as they get ready for their region schedule.
