Count that 7 in a row
By Joe Joe Wright
Facing off against their nemesis for the region title. The Crisp Academy Lady Wildcats won their 7th region title in a row 46-42 against the Westwood Wildcats on Friday. All season long the lady cats have been chasing Westwood. The big orange has already beaten Crisp Academy twice this year and led the region most of the season. “ I told the girls if we are going to beat them we have to have less than 10 turnovers ( the cats had 8), we have got to make our free throws( as a team they were 14-16), and we must control the board” ( the girls had 37 rebounds) said Head Coach Gina Mitchell. “If we do this we can win if we don’t we won’t”, Mitchell further explained.
Crisp got 21 points from Claire McGarr and 16 from Sydney Wells and McGarr was a perfect 9 for 9 from the line. McGarr and Wells both pulled down 9 rebounds apiece and barely missed a double double. Maddie Milani and Josey Wessel both grabbed 6 rebounds apiece also for the winners. It was in the 4th stanza when they had to play tough that girls did their best by scoring 18 points to lay claim to the title. The Lady Wildcats face of against Monsignor Donovan on Tuesday at 7:00pm here in Cordele and the boys play Wednesday evening at 5:30pm in Hinesville against the same Monsignor Donovan.
