The Dooly County Recreation Department was well represented this past week by their 8 u and 12 u teams in district play. The 8 u boys football team won the district 3 competitions by beating Lanier County 42-12 in the championship. Now the boys will travel to Tifton this weekend for the first round of state play against Pierce County. Should the boys win that contest they will turn around after a two-hour rest and play the winner of the Bacon County-Dodge County matchup for the State Championship. “I am very pleased with dedication and effort these boys have put into the games, they are tireless in their efforts,” said Head Coach Brent Owens.
The Dooly 12u boys matched their younger counter parts at district play by beating Lanier County 48-6 to win the district crown. Now they play travel to Effingham County to play Appling County in the semi-finals. If they win that contest they also will turn around and play the winner of Bacon County and Metter for the State crown.
