CORDELE — Just one day before the 18th anniversary of her daughter’s disappearance, Veronica Pate joined family and friends in a 5K walk to raise awareness and funds for missing children.
The Rock One Sock Searching For Shy Shy 5K was held on Saturday a testimonial of a family still filled with hope that they will one day be reunited with their missing loved one.
Shy’Kemmia Shy’Rezz Pate, known as “Shy Shy,” went missing from her Unadilla home on September 4, 1998. Since that day, her mother has never given up on seeing her daughter again.
“This weekend has been very emotional,” said Pate. “The 5K was a little tough for me at first. Sunday was even harder. I just hope that wherever she is, she might see all this and find her way back home.”
Pate said they did not yet have a final count on the amount of money raised but she is very grateful to everyone that turned out to be part of the event.
“We had a really good response to the 5K,” she said. “There were close to 100 people there. I want to thank everyone for supporting our family. I will never give up hope that Shy Shy is out there. I pray every day that God helps her find her way back to us.”
Proceeds from Saturday’s 5K goes in part to a reward fund for information on Shy Shy’s disappearance and in part to the National Center for Missing and exploited children.
