Professional accreditation is a complex and often lengthy process, but the benefits it brings can be significant, including increased confidence from both employees and the communities they serve. The development of the Office of the Sheriff Accreditation Program (OSAP) began in 2022 and officially launched in July 2023. The purpose of this program is to enhance professionalism and reduce liability by implementing accreditation standards tailored specifically for the Office of the Sheriff. Notably, the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office is among only seven out of 159 counties in Georgia to achieve accreditation from the Georgia Sheriff’s Association.
A key goal set for the agency in 2014 was to attain certified/accredited status. With Captain Sears at the helm, we received our first award in 2017 from the Georgia Chiefs Association and have maintained our accredited status by consistently meeting the required standards. This week, we proudly earned our accreditation from the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association.
Achieving accreditation through this program requires meeting several standards in various areas, including Administration, Courthouse Security, Law Enforcement, Sex Offender Registration, and Jail Operations.
“The completion of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association Office of Sheriff Accreditation program adds significant value to both the agency and the community. For a sheriff’s office, achieving accreditation is a major milestone that reflects leadership and a commitment to providing the highest quality of service. It demonstrates that the agency has undergone rigorous review and is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of accountability and transparency.”
