SGTC instructors meet and tour Crisp County manufacturing facilities

South Georgia Technical College Precision Machining and Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Industrial Electrical, and Welding instructors met and toured manufacturing facilities in Crisp County recently to learn more about the workforce needs of the area’s business and industry.

   Members of the Crisp County Chamber of Commerce, Crisp County Industrial Development Authority, manufacturers, and leaders from business and industry met together and talked about the workforce needs of the area.  SGTC instructors toured Helena and Harris Equipment to see the skills needed by those manufacturers.

   Helena’s Plant Manager Joshua Branch, Operations Manager Zach Whiddon and Plant Engineer Simon Mejias conducted the tour of the Helena facility and Harris Equipment Plant Manager Jerry Lott and Environmental Health and Safety Manager Brad Dearth gave officials a tour of their facility.

   South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford, SGTC Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and Director of Business and Industry for the Crisp County Center Michelle McGowan, along with SGTC Welding Instructor Thomas Mayo, Precision Machining and Manufacturing Instructor Jake Pittman, and Industrial Systems and Electrical Technology Instructors Jeff Sheppard and Patrick Owen met with officials and talked about how SGTC could help provide local business and industry with trained workers as well as provide specific training for the current workforce.  SGTC Board member and Crisp County Industrial Development Authority Director Grant Buckley also participated in the tours and meetings.

   SGTC has over 200 associate degree diploma and short-term technical certificate of training educational programs available to help individuals prepare for an outstanding career.  SGTC has a 100% job placement rate for graduates and also offers a guarantee for employers that if a graduate does not have the entry level skills needed, the college will retrain at no cost to the student or the employer.
