J.W. “Jay” Adkins, Jr., age 80 of Crisp County, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024 at his daughter’s residence . Born in Crisp County, he was the son of the late Julian William Adkins, Sr. and Edna Lois Tucker Adkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Adkins; his son-in-law, Wayne “Sport” White; his siblings, John C Adkins and Judy Weldon and her husband Ed; and a niece Kristin Weldon. J.W. was a farmer and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors so farming made him very happy. He had even been known to pick cotton on Christmas Eve. He enjoyed working with his cows and growing sugar cane back in the day. Cindy’s Diner was at the top of the list of places to go every day. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle to his many nieces and nephews. J.W. is survived by his daughter, Joy Adkins White of Crisp County; a sister-in-law, Genelle Adkins of Arabi; two brothers-in-law, Kermit Parsons of Lake Jackson and Steve Conner of Texas ; and nieces and nephews, Sandy P. Windom, Kim Parsons, Kept Parsons, Lance Weldon, Garrett Weldon, Whitney Weldon  Lee Adkins, Caylee Adkins, Charley King Earl Adkins, Aubrey Adkins, Austyn Adkins and Laney Adkins; a god-sister, Jennifer Ann Watson; his precious grand furbabies, Misty the dog and Bear the cat. Joy would like to thank Crisp Regional Hospice for the love and care of her father in his final days. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services, with burial following in Sunnyside Cemetery.
