Vicki Dowdy, 78 of Hahira, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. Born on October 8, 1946, in Cordele, Georgia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Laverne Sangster Porter.
A devoted member of Greenwood Baptist Church for many years, Vicki passionately dedicated her time to teaching Sunday School for two- and three-year-olds, as well as caring for the nursery children. Her nurturing spirit and love for young ones left a lasting impact on countless families in her community.
In addition to her service to the church, Vicki was a talented home decorator, and her passion for creating beautiful spaces was evident in every project she undertook.
Above all, Vicki cherished her family. She took immense joy in her children and grandchildren, often sharing special moments and creating cherished memories together.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Laney Dowdy.
Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, Stan Dowdy of Hahira, Georgia; sons: Mike Dowdy (Rhonda Cruce-Dowdy) of Madison, FL, and Scot Dowdy (Jan) of Hahira, Georgia; daughter, Kylee Weidinger (David) of Valdosta, Georgia; grandchildren: Zacc Salsgiver, Jessie Stephens, Kina Fletcher, Lissa Moore, Sophia Dowdy, Cole Dowdy, Drew Dowdy, Jack Dowdy, Hollyn Weidinger, Waylon Weidinger, and Grady Weidinger; four great-grandchildren; sisters: Shirley Alakamovitch of Columbus, Georgia, and Connie Langston of Macon, Georgia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Greenwood Baptist Church in Valdosta. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until 12:45 PM on the same day at the church. In honor of Vicki, the family will be wearing her favorite color, red, and invites anyone who wishes to join them.
