Press release from GDOT

In what may be the oddest part of our Hurricane Helene experience so far, an alligator wandered onto I-75 N in Crisp Co. around mile marker 105 last night or this morning. Sadly, it did not survive. Our Crisp Co. maintenance moved it off the road earlier today. It was a pretty sizeable gator and would have been a road hazard. The thinking is it wandered out of a nearby pond. This is a file photo of a gator. The photo of the Crisp Co. gator isn’t suitable to share here due to its physical state. We don’t know if weather conditions will result in more gators or other wildlife venturing onto roadways, but you should always keep an eye out for road hazards. And please report any road hazard on a state route by calling 511.
