Doris Wells Walker, a longtime resident of Athens-Oconee County died August 29.
Doris was born in Cordele, GA, the daughter of Albert Sidney Wells, Sr. and Ebbie
McKinney Wells. She spent her youth in Cordele after which she attended the
University of Georgia and earned a degree in business education. She married
George D. “Ted” Walker in 1953, with her early years of marriage spent rearing
their four children after which she did some substitute teaching and secretarial
work. She was a member of Friendship Presbyterian Church since 1957. Some of
her pleasures were spending time with family, playing bridge, cooking, jigsaw
puzzles, watching birds and traveling. She was preceded in death by her son Bill,
sister Evelyn Williams, brothers Sydney Wells Jr., William Lee Wells, Charles A.
Wells and Marvin W. Wells. She was survived by Ted, her husband of 70 years,
children George Walker Jr (Brigitt), Carol Phillips (Charles), Linda Bradshaw, and
sister Betty Lynn Baker. Arrangements for a family service are being planned.
