Allyson J. King joins SGTC as Librarian

Allyson J. King of Cuthbert has joined South Georgia Technical College as its Librarian, effective immediately, announced SGTC President Dr. John Watford. She will be housed on the Americus campus and will report to SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs Julie Partain.
“We are very pleased Allyson King has joined our team,” said President Watford. “She has a variety of experience and we look forward to her implementing and updating the library/media center to better support staff, faculty, and students.
King has been working for the Kinchafoonee Regional Library System as the Manager of the Clay County Library. As the supervisor, she oversaw three assistants and the operation of a branch of the library system including the public planning, delivery and promotion of programming and services, budget administration, and staff supervision.
Prior to joining the Kinchafoonee Regional Library System, King served as the Library Technical Assistant, College Store Manager, and Director Student Publications at Andrew College in Cuthbert. She also worked part-time as a Library Assistant at the Terrell County Library for a number of years.
At the Terrell County Library, King performed all circulation desk procedures and maintained organization of library materials. She also contributed to collection development processes and assisted patrons with research requests. She performed the same types of duties at Andrew College as well as instructed classes on effective use of library resources.
King has a Master of Library and Information Science degree from Valdosta State University. She earned a double major in English Language & Literature; and History from Georgia Southwestern State University and an Associate Degree in English Language & Literature from Andrew College.
As the Librarian at South Georgia Technical College, King will be responsible for maintaining a comprehensive media center to support staff, faculty, and students. She will catalog books and other library materials according to standard library practices and supervise the physical processing of library materials. She will also recommend and process orders of library materials and equipment, maintain reference materials and supervise circulation services as well as other duties as assigned.
