Deborah Hammonds of Byron passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024, at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, NC at the age of 60. A former long-time resident of Cordele, she was the daughter of the late Betty Hammonds Nipper. She was also preceded in death by her grandmother, Myrtle Hammonds. Debbie as she was lovingly known, had a sweet spirit and always wore a beautiful smile. She loved her family beyond anything else and according to her children was the strongest woman they knew. She is survived by her children, Heather Torres of Lumberton North Carolina, and Bubba Black and Josh Black, both of Byron; two brothers, Michael Hammonds and Billy Wayne Nipper, all of Cordele; 13 grandchildren, Bo, Dawson, Alyssa, Cheyenne, Harmony, Carson, Marshall, Josh Jr., Jackson, Bella, Jacob, Randall, and Jerimah; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services, with burial following at Arabi Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service Wednesday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
