Biography:
Ellis Horatio Morgan was born on January 7, 1968, in Fort Bragg in North Carolina to Gene and Sieglinda Morgan (Schaffer) and is the 4th of 5 siblings. As a military child, Ellis lived most of his childhood in Kansas and Germany. With his father stationed in Germany for 12 years, Ellis was fortunate to have such an opportunity to be surrounded by European history and culture. He developed a deep love and fascination of European art and architecture.
Ellis’ father retired from the United States Army in 1981. After his parent’s divorce in 1980, Ellis was the only sibling to stay with his father, returning to the USA. They moved back to his father’s hometown of Ashburn, GA and then to Cordele, GA where Ellis attended high school. It was in high school that Ellis took his first ever art class. Ellis’ teacher was Jim Mitchell, who saw much potential for Ellis to be an artist. Jim encouraged and challenged Ellis as an artist. During his junior year in high school, Ellis was selected to participate in the Governor’s Honors Program where his “World Hunger” piece was displayed at the state capital in Atlanta.
Ellis is married to his high school sweetheart, Josie Marie Morgan. They’ve been married for 34 years and have two children, Lydia and Brady. This show is, first and foremost , for his father and his with, Betty.
“My wish is for you to like the message more than the art itself.” -E Morgan
