The Cordele City Commission met on Tuesday December 19, 2023 at 9am at the Cordele City Hall Courtroom with Commissioner Vest Beal Shepard, Commissioner Isaac H. Owens, Commissioner Royce Reeves, Sr., and City attorney, Tommy Coleman in attendance. Commissioner Wesley Rainey was in attendance via phone call. Chairman Joshua Deriso was absent.
The meeting consisted of four agenda items, although agenda item number 3 was removed to allow the City Attorney to draft an ordinance in relation to the resolution for the governing body to appoint the Chairman and Vice Chairman and to create an at large ward.
The first agenda item was to discuss the alcohol renewal licenses with some exceptions noted of: Odom Pool Room, Quick Buy Food Store, and Quick Mart #17.
There were many concerns in regards to the Odom Pool Room as recently there was a shooting at the business along with a number of calls to 911 in regards to other issues. They also mentioned an over crowding issue. They have decided to table this for 30 days until they have a hearing; in that time they are still aloud to sell alcohol.
Quick Buy Food Store, and Quick Mart #17, was both granted a renewal.
The second agenda item was to discuss food trucks; permit fees, number of times a food truck can set up in the community and identifying a paring area at Williams Field for food trucks. They had a long discussion in regards to the permit fees and decided that they would set a daily permit cost of $30 per set up and remove the current fee of $100 for a year. With this decision they did not need to discuss the number of times a food truck could set up and they have made it aware where the food trucks are to set up at Williams Field.
The fourth agenda item was to discuss the unexcused absences at City Commission meetings. They have discussed that there will be a penalty in their pay of possibly 25-30% if a meeting is missed without contacting a Commissioner or City Manager. This will be further discussed at the City Attorney will draft an ordinance for this issue.
The meeting was then adjourned.
