Ten graduates of the South Georgia Technical College Practical Nursing program received their nursing pins in a recent ceremony in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the Americus campus. A crowd of family, friends, administrators, and instructors attended the event to show their support as the students participated in the traditional pinning ritual.
SGTC President Dr. John Watford welcomed those in attendance and graduate Jesse Adkins gave the invocation. Practical Nursing instructor Jennifer Childs provided a class overview and presented a slideshow featuring the students over the course of their studies in the program.
Shahida Clarke was selected by her classmates to speak for the class. “I can honestly say, even though we didn’t get to choose who traveled this journey with us,” Clarke said, “I’m so thankful for what each and every one of us brought to the class. I’ll forever cherish the memories we created together”
After the speech, Jennifer Childs and fellow Practical Nursing instructors Christine Rundle, Raissa Welch, and Brandi Chappell called each member of the class to the stage individually to receive their pin and a rose.
Graduates receiving their pins were Jesse Adkins of Cordele, pinned by his mother-in-law Sheila Dye, RN; Kimberly Barnes of Parrott, pinned by Christine Rundle and Jennifer Childs; Shahida Clarke of Warner Robins, pinned by Dominique Grant, RN, and De-ajah Perry, RN; Diamond Hollis of Ellaville, pinned by Jasmine James, LPN; Takeya Hollis of Americus, pinned by Monshita McDonald, FNP; Aderica Ross of Americus, pinned by her stepmother, Donna Brown, LPN; Youlander Sawyer-Brewton of Unadilla, pinned by Shamonda Henry, LPN; Morgan Senkbeil of Leesburg, pinned by Christine Rundle and Jennifer Childs; Kareem Volley of Americus, pinned by Jacinda Reese, LPN; and Robert West of Warner Robins, pinned by Christine Rundle.
