CORDELE — A collaborative of partners gathered together recently to present the 2016 Teen Maze at Crisp County High School.  The Crisp County School System presents the event in partnership with collaborative members of Crisp County Family Connection and other local volunteers and organizations.
The Teen Maze is an experiential learning event. Eighth grade through twelfth grade students navigate their way through the maze.  The goal of the effort is to help students realize the impact of making good choices.  Students have no control of their choices during the maze, and are presented consequences of choices related to substance abuse, unprotected sex, teen pregnancy/parenting, financial obligations, date violence, drinking/texting and driving, criminal activity, etc.  The overall message is that making good choices will set students on a successful path to high school graduation.
According to www.kidscount.org, the most recent ratings for teen pregnancy reveal that nearly thirty percent of teen girls in Crisp County ages 15-19 become pregnant.  While that number has decreased over the past five years, it is still high in comparison to Georgia’s nearly nineteen percent rate.  Crisp County’s Teen Maze, presented every other year, positively impacts the county’s teen pregnancy statistics.
The local partners that come together to ensure the success of the event are numerous and come from all over the southwest Georgia region.  More than 200 volunteers are utilized.  Crisp County School System and Crisp County Family Connection would like to thank all who played a part in this year’s event.
