In a reversal of previously announced plans, the Dooly County School Board approved virtual learning for all grades for the first semester of the 2020-21 school year. The previous plan called for in-school learning for pre-K through the second grade.

“I am announcing an update to our plan for reopening our schools for the 2020-21 school year,” said Superintendent of Schools Craig Lockhart. “As of this week, COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the world and nation, including Dooly County. Our staff has reached out to many pre-K through 2^nd grade parents and based on that information as well as teacher feedback, I recommend that all grades, pre-K through 12, go virtual for the beginning of the school year. Under this model all students will interact with teachers Monday through Thursday and move the independent learning day from Wednesday to Friday to remain in compliance with special ed regulations. This decision is made in the best interest of students, faculty and staff. At the end of the first nine-week period, we will re-evaluate to determine if traditional schooling can be an option in the future.”
