UPDATE:

On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Rgion 13 Perry,Georgia Office was requested by the Rochelle Police Department and Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a death investigation.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 2:00 p.m., a male, identified as the father of the victim, came to the Rochelle Police Department stating that his 4-year-old daughter had been shot. Rochelle dispatchers requested a Rochelle Officer respond to the Police Department to assist. Upon the officer’s arrival, the male had left the area. Shortly after the report of the shooting to the Rochelle Police Department, the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office received information that the male had traveled to Seville, GA where he dropped the body of the victim off with family and then left the residence. The victim was pronounced dead at the residence by the Wilcox CountyCoroner.

The male is known by local law enforcement and this information lead to a residence at 151 CAlley Ave., Rochelle, GA. A search warrant was obtained for the residence and evidence of a crime was found inside the residence. The male subject was later located and interviewed.

The GBI will continue its investigation of the death of the victim. The body of the victim will be transported to the GBI MedicalEaminer’s Office in Macon, Georgia for an autopsy to be completed.

Evidence recoved from the crime scene will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab for further analysis. Interviews are still being conducted with witnesses.

 

 

“It’s a sad day” said Sheriff Robert Rodgers about the incident that took place about 2:00 p.m. today.

The details are sketchy at this time, all we know at the moment that a four yearold child was fatally shot in the head.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is on scene helping the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office and the Rochelle Police Department.
