Funeral services for Mrs. June Harper Dorminy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2020 in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church in Thomasville, GA. A grave side service will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele, GA. The family will receive friends prior to the service Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Due to social distancing guidelines, seating for the service will be limited and all attendees are encouraged to bring and wear a masks and follow safety guidelines.

On July 8, 2020 June was called home to be with her Lord in heaven. She was born February 8, 1935 in Cordele, GA in Crisp County to Ralph Bunion Harper and Lois Musselwhite Harper. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her one and only love, of 64 years, Fredrick Norwood Dorminy; her three children, Suzanne D. Bond (Jeff) from Vienna, VA; Rick Dorminy (Jac), from Satellite Beach, FLA and Bill Dorminy (Elizabeth) from West Point, GA; a sister, Joyce Glover Cooksey( Joe McDonald) from Canton, GA; a brother Ralph Harper (Suzanne) from Albany, GA, her 6 grandchildren, Mitch Collins, Sarah Dorminy, Rachel Dorminy, Josh Dorminy, James Dorminy, and Garner and 2 great-grandchildren Jacob Collins, and Cassie Collins. She was blessed with many nieces and nephews.

June was a 1952 graduate of Cordele High School. After graduation she went to Atlanta to attend Atlanta Secretarial School. She worked for Southern Bell when she and Fred first married. She and Fred moved back to Cordele where she worked for Wright and Reddick Law Offices. She was always willing to sacrifice for her husband and her children. When her children were school age she began working in school systems as the secretary. She worked at Crisp County High School and Crisp Academy. When the family moved to Athens, she worked for the University of Georgia in the Educational Administration office. She worked in schools in both Wilkes County and Thomasville City Schools.

After retiring, she and Fred were able to visit many sites in the United States and she enjoyed genealogy and searching for information about her ancestors. Her interest in genealogy lead her and Fred to travel to Ireland several times while researching her family.

June always enjoyed visiting her grandchildren and watching them play sports, and perform in plays. Whatever her grandchildren were doing, she wanted to cheer for them and support them. Along with her grandchildren, she also enjoyed seeing all of her grand pets.

Gardening was her love and she was known to have a green thumb. Orchids were her favorite flower to grow, and she always loved finding new orchids to work on. She also enjoyed feeding and watching birds in her flower beds. When she wasn’t visiting grands and growing flowers, June enjoyed visiting with her bridge group and playing bridge.

She and Fred are avid members of the Thomasville Orchid Society. She is also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Thomasville where she served on several committees to help others.
