At 7:14 am, Tuesday, July 14, chapters of the Bible will be read from the steps of every county courthouse — all 159 — in Georgia. A reader at each county will read a different section of the Bible that has been assigned to them.

     Crisp County readers will read from First Samuel, chapters 15-20.

     “It will take about an hour,” said Jerri Tuck, one of the organizers of the event.. “We went through it pretty fast last year and we are hoping it happens again.”

       Knowing Georgia had 159 counties, the task of spreading the news about having a Bible Reading Marathon seemed like an impossible task.

     “Never underestimate what the Lord can do when He sees our hearts,” Tuck said. “The only ability we need with God is availability.  The work is all His.”

      Tuck got some help from Dianne Bentley, State Chairman of the Bible Reading Marathon in Iowa.

     “Apparently, she was looking online to see if any other states had BRM’s and came across information regarding our marathon and found my contact information,” Tuck said. “She told me about a project of Bible reading they were doing in Iowa on July 14, 2019.  They planned to read the entire Bible in every county.  Their governor signed a proclamation declaring Bible Reading Marathons all over Iowa.

     The date of July 14 in 2019 fell on a Sunday and was chosen because of the verse in 2 Chronicles 7:14. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
