CCHS Lady Cougars fall to Schley 5-2
The Crisp County High School Lady Cougar softball team fell to Schley County (18-5, number two ranked team in class A) by a final score of 5-2 on Monday in their final home game of the 2019 regular season.
Schley held a 4-0 lead after two innings of play, having scored a pair of runs in each of the first two frames.
The Lady Cougars scored their first run of the contest in the bottom of the third inning when Macy West hit a sacrifice fly that scored Jo Brady, who had previously led off the inning with a double to left field before moving over to third base on a ground out.
After scoreless fourth and fifth innings, the visitors tacked on their final run of the contest during the top half of the sixth frame with a pair of hits.
Riley Blampied hit a one out double during the bottom of the seventh and later scored on an RBI hit by Sara Ruth Raines for the other Crisp run of the contest, leaving the final score at 5-2 in favor of Schley at the conclusion of the game.
Olivia Bridges pitched all seven innings in the contest for the Lady Cougars and allowed just one earned run on nine hits while striking out two batters.
Blampied and Brady both finished the day with two hits and a run scored to lead the Lady Cougar batting lineup. Raines, Kirin Webb, and Peyton Bozeman each added one hit to the Crisp total on the day.
The defeat to Schley on Monday brought Crisp’s overall record to 15-6 on the season. CCHS will close out regular season play with a road game at Bainbridge High on Thursday afternoon, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
The Lady Cougars will open up the playoffs with a home series next week beginning on Wednesday, with times still to be determined.
Wilcox falls to Charlton in region action
The Wilcox County Lady Patriot softball team dropped a late-season road region 2-A contest at Charlton County (14-7 overall, 11-4 in region play for third place in standings) by a final score of 3-0 on Monday afternoon in Folkston.
The contest ended up being a pitchers’ duel, in which Charlton scored all three of their runs during the bottom of the fifth frame. Emma Woolard pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout to lead Charlton to the win.
Chastity Stephens pitched six innings for the Lady Patriots in the contest and allowed just one earned run on eight hits and one walk while striking out eight Charlton batters.
Carlee Walls finished the game with a pair of hits for the Lady Patriots, while Mackenzie White and Lexie Anderson each finished with one.
Wilcox is scheduled to play their final home game of the regular season against Worth County tonight starting at 5:30 p.m. They will close out the regular season portion of their 2019 schedule with a road region game at Clinch County on Thursday afternoon at 6.
The Lady Patriots enter tonight’s contest versus Worth with an overall record of 16-6, with a 12-3 mark in region play.
Fullington run rules Piedmont
Fullington Academy’s softball team played their final road game of the 2019 schedule on Monday afternoon at Piedmont, and the Lady Trojans defeated the hosts by a score of 13-1 after just four innings of play.
Ella McGalliard got the start in the circle for Fullington and she pitched all four innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out four batters to pick up the win.
Final stats for the Fullington batting lineup in the contest were as follows: Carmen Phillips- one double and one run; McGalliard- three hits (all singles), two runs, and one RBI; Marley Jones-one walk; Carlee Roberts- three hits (one double/two singles), three runs, and one RBI; Lauren Rucker and Maddy McLeod- each with two hits, one RBI, and three runs; Parker Wall- one hit, two walks, two RBIs, and one run; Lillie Grace Register- one double, one walk, and four RBIs; Maggie Rogers- two hits and three RBIs.
The Lady Trojans brought their overall record to 16-4 on the season with the win.
Fullington closes out the regular season at home against Southwest Georgia Academy on Thursday afternoon with first pitch set for 4:30 p.m. The Lady Trojans will enter the state tournament in the semfinal round taking place next week, with details still to be determined.
