Clinch County 28 Wilcox County 22
The Wilcox County Patriots got out to a 22-10 lead against the defending class A state champions, the Clinch County Panthers (4-1), in Homerville on Friday night, but the hosts scored 18 unanswered points to come back and win the region contest by the final score of 28-22.
The Patriots scored two touchdowns during the first quarter of Friday night’s game. Elijah Howard opened the scoring in the contest when he scooped up a Clinch County fumble and ran it back around 75 yards for a defensive touchdown. Clinch tied the score up at seven apiece shortly after, but Patriot quarterback Noah Hollingworth later gave Wilcox the lead again when he ran in a touchdown from 24 yards out.
The hosts scored the only points of the second period with a 26-yard field goal. The Patriots led at halftime by a score of 14-10.
Wilcox extended the lead early in the third quarter with a 31-yard touchdown run from Desmond Tisdol, followed by a two-point conversion run from Martez Thrower for the 22-10 advantage.
From there the hosts tacked on a field goal late in the third period, followed by two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter to come back and win by the 28-22 final score line.
Tisdol led the Wilcox offense in the contest with 11 carries for 96 yards and his touchdown, while also catching one pass for 57 yards. On defense he finished with seven total tackles, including one for a loss of yards.
Thrower and Abe Stowe both finished the night with six total tackles on defense for the Patriots, while Branson Owens ended the night with five stops.
Friday night’s defeat was the first of the season for Wilcox, as they now have a record of 4-1 on the season.
Next up on the schedule for the Patriots is a road region game at Telfair County (2-3) on Friday night.
Schley County 27 Dooly County 8
The Dooly County Bobcats fell to region opponent Schley County (3-2) by a final score of 27-8 in Ellaville on Friday night.
After a scoreless first half, Schley scored the first points of the night during the third period, before tacking on 20 more points in the fourth period to take a 27-0 lead.
Dooly got on the scoreboard during the last minute of the game with a touchdown from Edgerrin Almond that broke up the shutout, followed by a two-point conversion from Eric Ivory.
Alsaquan Adams had four rushes for 73 yards and three catches for 40 yards on the night for the Dooly offense. Malik Mcghee finished the game with nine rushes for 40 yards, while Shamon Zanders had one recpetion for 18 yards.
Jeff Felton led the Bobcat defense on the night with seven total tackles, inlcuding four for a loss of yards, and 1.5 sacks. Rick Hill had six tackles for Dooly on the night, and Ivory pulled in an interception for the Bobcat defensive unit.
With the defeat, the Bobcats fell to 0-4 so far on the season.
Dooly will play another road region game this Friday night, as they will be visiting Montezuma to take on the Macon County Bulldogs (2-2).
Pataula Charter 22 Fullington Academy 20
The Fullington Academy Trojan football team dropped a road game at Pataula Charter Academy (1-4) on Friday night by a final score of 22-20.
The Trojans fell to 1-5 so far on the season with the defeat. Fullington will begin regon play this week with a road game at Griffin Christian (3-1) on Friday night.
