Longtime government servant plans to retire in September

 

Crisp County Administrator Tom Patton announced at Tuesday’s meeting of the Crisp County Board of Commissioners that he has decided to retire in September. But that doesn’t mean he’s quitting anytime soon.

“There’s a lot I want to accomplish before I’m officially retired. I’ll probably work harder these next six months than I did during my first six months,” said Patton, who added that he has assured county commissioners he will not leave before they hire a replacement. “Hopefully we’ll be able to find a great county administrator who can come in and do an even better job.”

It may be difficult to find someone who has done as good a job of minding the county’s checkbook. There has been no millage increase in Crisp County for the past four years — something that no other contiguous county can say.

“It’s a good time for the county to make a transition, I think, because I see Crisp County on the verge of really breaking out,” Patton said. “If you look at our infrastructure and where we’re located, we’ve got a lot of good things going for us.”
