Wildcats continue unbeaten start with win over SGA

Crisp Academy’s varsity baseball team moved to 3-0 (2-0 in region play) on the season with a 6-1 home region win over the Southwest Georgia Academy Warriors on Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the contest with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Garrett Gravitt reached base on a single with one out in the frame and Spencer Stubbs provided the run scoring hit with a home run to left field for a 2-0 CA lead.
The Wildcats subsequently added on their third run of the game during the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly from Griffin Gravitt that scored Dylan Farmer.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Crisp tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth frame to go in front by a score of 5-0.
Baylor Pless led off the inning with a double and he came around to score shortly after on an RBI single from Griffin Gravitt. Blake Simpson was credited with a sacrifice fly RBI later in the inning for the fifth CA run of the contest.
SGA got on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the top of the sixth to cut into CA’s lead, but the Wildcats responded with their final run in the bottom half of the sixth on an RBI hit from Pless for a 6-1 lead.
Stubbs pitched a scoreless top half of the seventh inning to finish the game off for a CA win by the final score of 6-1.
Pless started the game on the mound for the Wildcats and picked up the win after pitching five shutout innings and allowing just four Warrior hits while striking out five batters. Stubbs came on in the sixth and pitched two innings, in which he gave up just one run on one hit and three walks to finish the game off for CA.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play two region games this week, the first on Tuesday at Terrell Academy at 4 p.m., and the other on Friday at Westwood also at 4.
