Crisp County Deputy John Harvey said on Wednesday that, when he pulled over a Michigan vehicle speeding south on I-75 at 97 mph that morning at around 8:15, he could smell marijuana just as soon as the driver opened the car door.
A subsequent search turned up roughly 60 pieces of edible marijuana candies, 55 packets of suspected cannabis wax, which is a highly concentrated form of marijuana derived from the cannabis plant, along with under an ounce of smokable marijuana. Harvey also confiscated just over $7,000 in cash and an expired medical marijuana card from Michigan.
Harvey then placed the two occupants of the vehicle, 24-year-old Rodney Hernandez and 21-year-old Melinda Zamora, both residents of Lansing, Mich. Zamora faces charges of possession of marijuana less than an ounce, speeding, possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance with intent to distribute, and window tint violation. Hernandez faces charges of possession of marijuana less than an ounce, and possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance with intent to distribute.
