Crisp County High School’s baseball team picked up their third win of the season on Wednesday night with an 8-3 victory over Westover High in Albany.

Crisp opened the scoring in the top of the first on an RBI single from Jack Carter that sent Toby Stripling home.

The Cougars went on to add a run in the top of the second after a Westover error allowed Jordan Grinnell to score a run following a base hit from Stripling. Westover picked up a run in the bottom half of the inning after a wild pitch, but the Cougars led 2-1 after two innings of play.

The third inning proved to be key to the CCHS victory, as the Cougars tacked on five runs to their lead in the top half of the frame. Jackson Napier and Cole Lancaster each had RBIs early in the inning, and several defensive mistakes by the Westover Patriots helped the Cougars tack on three more runs to take a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the third.

Westover picked up a fourth inning run to bring the score to 7-2 in favor of the Cougars, but the hosts were unable to bring the score any closer than five runs the rest of the way.

The Cougars scored their final run of the day in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Carter. Westover went on to score one run in the bottom of the seventh frame to bring the final score to 8-3 in favor of Crisp.

Batting lineup stats for the Cougars in the game: 1. Stripling- one hit, two walks and two runs scored; 2. Connor Richmond- one hit and two stolen bases; 3. Carter- two hits, two RBIs, one walk, and one run scored; 4. Bailey Barfield- two walks, one stolen base, and one run scored; 5. Napier- one hit, one RBI, one walk, and one run scored; 6. Noah Walters- one hit and one run scored; 7. Lancaster- one walk, one RBI, and one run; 8. Brant Drinnon- one walk and two RBIs; 9. Grinnell- one stolen base and one run scored.

Barfield got the start on the mound for Crisp and put in three and two thirds innings of work allowing two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out four Westover batters. Drinnon pitched two and a third innings of hitless baseball while recording two strikeouts in relief for the Cougars. Lancaster pitched the seventh inning for Crisp and gave up just one unearned run to Westover.

The win put Crisp County at 3-2 on the season. Up next for the Cougars is a home game against Southland Academy on Friday night starting at 6 p.m. CCHS will then play a road game at Hawkinsville High School on Monday at 6.
