CORDELE— The Crisp Academy Wildcat basketball teams hosted region 3-AA rival Westwood on Tuesday night. Crisp took the win in the boys’ game by a final score of 59-40, while the Westwood Lady Wildcats (22-3) won the girls’ game over CA 67-30.

Westwood got out to a 12-1 lead over CA at the end of the first quarter of Tuesday night’s girls’ game. CA’s only point of the first period came on a free throw by Mia Purvis.

Westwood subsequently outscored Crisp 23-13 in the second quarter. Maddie Milani scored five of CA’s 13 points in the quarter on a three-pointer and a pair of free throws. Bryanna Brock hit a jump shot and made a layup to tack on four of CA’s second period points, while Purvis scored the other four on a pair of layups. Westwood was ahead 35-14 at halftime.

Westwood later outscored Crisp 25-10 in the third quarter. Marley Suddeth hit a jump shot and made a layup for four of CA’s 10 third quarter points. Milani made her second three-pointer of the night in the period, while Maggie Bullington and Elizabeth Williams also got on the score sheet for Crisp in the quarter. The CA Lady Cats trailed 60-24 after three quarters played.

The Westwood Lady Cats finished the game off by outscoring CA 7-6 in the fourth quarter to bring the final score line to 67-30. Brock added two points to her total in the quarter with a pair of free throws for CA, and Abigail Brown also made a couple of free throws to get on the score sheet.

Milani led the CA Lady Wildcats in scoring in the game with eight points, while Brock finished with six points and Purvis had five.

Gracie Pollock scored 25 points to lead the Westwood Lady Wildcats in the game.

Crisp Academy’s Lady Wildcats had a record of 3-14 following the defeat against Westwood.

The boys’ game was a close contest early on, as CA had an 8-5 lead at the end of a defensive first quarter. Griffin Gravitt scored four of Crisp Academy’s first period points on a layup and a pair of free throws, while Julian Floyd and Kaleb Spires each had a layup later on to combine for the other four.

Crisp then started to pull away in the second quarter by outscoring Westwood 16-8 to take a 24-13 lead into halftime. Gravitt had four of the CA points in the quarter on two free throws and a layup, while Floyd and Baylor Pless both knocked down three-point shots. Trey Williams, Cooper Folds, and Spencer Stubbs combined for the other six CA points in the period.

Westwood went on to close the gap in the third quarter by outscoring Crisp Academy 15-12. Gravitt paced CA in the third quarter as well with five more points tacked on to his total. Stubbs made a pair of layups in the period to add on four points, while Folds had two and Billy Hardin made a free throw to get on the score sheet. Westwood closed the Crisp Academy lead down to as close as a four points in the period, but CA went on a scoring run shortly after to get the lead back up to 36-28 going into the fourth quarter.

CA finished the game off by putting up 23 points in the fourth quarter to Westwood’s 12 to put the final touches on a region win by the final score line of 59-40. Gravitt added 11 more points in the final quarter, several of which came on fast break layups after Westwood turnovers. Folds scored six points in the fourth period, while Floyd, Pless, and Williams each tacked on two.

Gravitt finished the game with a total of 24 points to lead Crisp, and Folds put in a total of 10.

Final point totals for other Crisp Academy contributors were as follows: Floyd- seven points, Stubbs, Williams and Pless- five each, Spires- two, and Hardin- one.

The win put CA at 14-4 overall on the season and 6-2 in region play. The victory also made it 12 wins in the last 13 games for Crisp.

Both CA teams will be in action at Twiggs Academy tonight starting at 6 p.m., and tomorrow night Crisp will take on Deerfield-Windsor for home non-region games to close out the regular season.

The CA teams will then play in the GISA region 3-AA tournament hosted by Terrell Academy next week.
