TAYLORS, S.C. — Pauline Bryant Lyons, 80, former resident of Cordele, GA and member of First Baptist Church of Cordele, departed this life on Nov. 9, 2018. Born in Carroll County, VA on Jan. 8, 1938 to the late Rev. Gilmer Bryant and Hazel Berrier Bryant, she was born again into the Kingdom of God at the age of 12.

Her late husband, Rev. Ronald Lyons, began a successful sawmill and lumber company in Pilot Mountain, NC, she becoming the bookkeeper and constant encourager. She was a hands-on mother and homemaker, making clothes for the children, canning peaches, green beans, and pickles each year. With her father, she had huge produce gardens. Some of their produce was sold to the fruit stands on Highway 52.

Active in church, she, her husband, and children formed the Lyons Family, singing in revivals and at other events. An avid reader, a Seminary Extension student of Surry Baptist Association, and a self-taught pianist (often she could be overheard, playing and singing “We’re Marching to Zion” or another hymn), she was an asset to her husband as they served churches including Independence and Cedar Lane Baptist Churches in Fancy Gap and, Cana, VA respectively in their formative years as well as Ladonia and Faith Baptist Churches, Mt. Airy, NC.

She loved Sunday School, teaching children for years, and later taught a ladies’ class, including one at Cordele FBC. Recently, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Taylors, SC.

She inspired her four children to attend college, an advocate to her husband, he had dropped out of school at an early age because he had to work. Not only did the four attend college, but all graduated. Then she attended Surry Community College in Dobson, NC, and completed an Associate Bachelor’s degree in Business.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Dr. Victor (and Lucinda) Lyons of Georgia, Mary (and Steve) DeKorte of Oregon, Ira Lyons of Virginia, and Susan (and David) Cain of South Carolina, seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren (one born on her 73rd birthday); her sister Forest Golding of Lambsburg, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Bryant.
