Road construction crews will be on Georgia 90 in Byromville tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, to begin repairing the damage from a CSX train derailment from a trestle earlier this month.

A stretch of the highway from the Georgia 230 Connector/Church Avenue to just north of the trestle is full of ruts, deep gouges and scraped depressions caused by the rail car impacts as well as their removal process. Phase One of the project, involving the area clean-up, has been completed. Phase Two, involving the roadway reconstruction, will involve what is called ‘deep face’ patching in several areas. Then, the entire affected stretch of Georgia 90 will be milled and overlaid. The last steps include striping and guardrail repairs.

The work has been contracted to Reeves Construction Company. They believe the project should be completed and the road reopened to traffic by Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018. Unexpected weather issues may affect this timeline, so local motorists should keep alert to announcements regarding the project’s progress.
