Built in 1991, the Crisp County Detention Center has operated continuously—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year—serving as a vital part of our county’s public safety infrastructure. Now, after more than three decades of service, the facility is undergoing much-needed upgrades.
Commissioners Felton and Dowdy (not pictured) recently stopped by for a tour to see the progress firsthand. With the help of County Maintenance Supervisor Toby Coleman, his staff, and the assistance of inmate labor, improvements are well underway, and the results are showing.
Sheriff Hancock emphasized the importance of commissioners visiting the detention center to see its current condition firsthand. He acknowledged that public safety is the largest expense in the county budget, but emphasized that maintaining high standards and quality care for inmates is essential and non-negotiable.
