The Cordele-Crisp Community League partnered with the Georgia Secretary of State’s office to bring a financial literacy program to Crisp County High School students presented by FUNDING THE FUTURE. FUNDING THE FUTURE is a nonprofit organization with a mission to educate students across the country on the importance of smart financial decisions, through a multimedia presentation including music, video and an inspirational message.
The program was head-lined by Carter Hulsey, an Alternative-Rock/Americana singer-songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. He and his band members are professional musicians that tour part of the year for FUNDING THE FUTURE bringing programs to young people across the United States emphasizing the importance of financial literacy at a young age. They shared a lively musical program followed by a discussion of some very important financial lessons that will give young people a head start on securing their financial future. Some topics covered included:
- Credit scores and how they impact your life
- Interest rates and borrowing money for items, such as buying a car
- Credit cards and how to use them responsibly
- Pay day lenders and the high cost of these type loans
- Investing in savings, such as a Roth IRA, from an early to age to build security for the future
FUNDING THE FUTURE’s mission statement is to ensure every student in America receives financial literacy education by supporting nationwide changes that make financial literacy a required part of education in every state, empowering the next generation to make smarter financial decisions and achieve greater personal and professional success.
