Your life is made of two dates and a dash. Make the most the dash.

Joel Franklin Carpenter, 81, of Ashburn passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025 at his residence.

Joel was born in Vanceville, Tifton, Georgia to the late W. C. (Junior) and Dessie Stone Carpenter. Joel and his sister Sandra Laster grew up in Vanceville, Georgia surrounded by family and friends all who contributed to the shaping of the man we called Daddy. Later Joel met and married the love of his life, Brenda Joyce McKinney Carpenter and they moved to Doles, Georgia. They had two children, Lee and Bo, who also made Doles their home. There is absolutely no way to put into words the legacy of this man or the lives he has touched. Joel Carpenter lived his life for the Lord Jesus Christ. If you knew him, you knew that. He was not boastful or proud, he worked for what he had and taught his children his values and about the Lord Jesus Christ nor did he strive for earthly treasures. He lived his life for the treasures in Heaven, to which they are plenty. Joel was humble and kind and loved life. He was always laughing and smiling. He lived his dash. We all have fond, loving and funny memories of his dash. He always said what mattered the most is the dash between birth and death…..and what a dash you had, Daddy.

He is survived by his daughter, Lee Carpenter Wideman of Ashburn; son, Joel Todd “Bo” (Jennifer) Carpenter of Ashburn; sister, Sandra Laster of Vanceville; grandchildren, Chance (Heather) Carpenter, Tomijo (J. J.) Douglas; Breanna (Cole) Melton, Charlie Rae (Braydon) Rountree and Katherine Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Desi Carpenter, Dustin Douglas, Brooks Carpenter, Ty Carpenter, Levi Melton, Ivy Rountree, Todd Rountree and Will Rountree.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife who passed away February 13, 2025, Joyce McKinney Carpenter; brother-in-law, Billy Joe Laster; great-nephew, Joshua (Josh) Kagan Salter.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 16, 2025 in Red Oak Cemetery.
