Crisp County Board of Education reviewed items its set to consider this month during a workshop meeting Wednesday, April 2.
During the meeting, board members reviewed two fundraising requests they will be asked to vote on at the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 14.
The FFA at Crisp County High School seeks approval to hold a mattress sale Sunday, May 4.
Superintendent Cindy Hughes said FFA members and parents plan to advertise and promote the sale that will be held in the CCHS gym.
“All sales run through the CCHS bookkeeper,” Hughes said. “Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for FFA activities, field trips, annual banquet and state convention expenses.”
The second fundraising request comes from the Crisp County Elementary Beta Club, which is hoping to hold a “Glow Party” to raise funds for its members’ club activities, including materials and conventions.
Hughes explained the event is a dance and that would be held in the CCES cafeteria from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, April 19.
“The dance would be chaperoned by staff members and parent volunteers,” she said, adding that prior authorization was given by CCES Principal Stacy Stephens, who plans to attend the dance.
“The event would be for fourth and fifth grade students only,” Hughes noted, adding that there will be music, food and dancing.
Tickets are $20 for admission and food and $15 admission only at the door.
Vehicle purchase
Hughes told the board of education members that they have received bids for the purchase of a new vehicle that will be used by the technology department to transport its equipment across the school system.
She said Director of Technology Matthew O’Gorman recommends accepting the low bid of $42,245 from Brannen Motor Company for a 2025 Ford Explorer. Three bids were received with the other two coming from Jeff Smith Ford at $43,900 and Sunbelt Ford at $44,085.
“This item was already budgeted,” Hughes noted, adding that it is not an addition to the fiscal year 2025 budget.
Financial report
The board also received the school district financial report for February 2025.
It shows that fiscal year revenues total $31.55 million or 74% of the budgeted amount for fiscal year 2025. Expenditures total $28.9 million, or 63% of the budgeted amount.
The ending general fund balance for the district is $17.88 million.
The Special Project Local Option Sales Tax reports for February were also presented for member’s review.
SPLOST VI had collections of $458,259 in February and interest earned of $10,227. This brings the ending balance to $3.44 million.
SPLOST V saw interest earnings of $4,002, which brings that fund’s ending balance to $3.26 million.
Upcoming events
Hughes said that the week of April 7-11 will be spring break, both for students and teachers.
She said it is a needed respite for teachers.
“They need their brain break,” Hughes said.
Because of spring break’s timing, the regular board of education will be at 6:30 p.m., Monday April 14, which is a week later than usual.
