On April 1, 2025, the Cordele Police Department, with the assistance of the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, executed a search warrant shortly after 6 a.m. in the 400 block of East 24th Avenue. This operation stemmed from a thorough investigation by the Cordele Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division into several shootings that had occurred in the city since February. Fortunately, no one was injured in these incidents, although approximately thirty shell casings were recovered from various crime scenes.
During the operation, officers arrested a seventeen-year-old male suspect, who was charged with:
– Two counts of aggravated assault
– Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
– Discharging a firearm near a roadway
– Possession of tools for the commission of a crime
– Violation of the Georgia Street Gang Act
Additionally, officers seized four firearms, multiple magazines—including a high-capacity drum magazine—numerous boxes of ammunition, gun parts, and a bulletproof vest during the search.
Prior to this operation, one arrest had already been made in connection with one of the shootings, resulting in the recovery of several firearms. The investigation by the Cordele Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division revealed evidence suggesting that these shootings and the individuals involved are connected to criminal street gangs. These cases are still under investigation.
