Shirley Ann Perry Calhoun of Cordele passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, at Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehab at the age of 87.  Shirley was born in Cordele, the daughter of the late N.C. Perry and Minnie Christine Atkinson Perry. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Jack Calhoun, daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Larry Anderson, brothers, Tap Perry, Stevie Perry and Tim Perry and a sister-in-law, Mary Perry. Shirley loved her Lord, and was devoted to her church, Bethlehem Freewill Baptist where she had served as the church clerk for 50 years and was also one of the oldest members of the church. Shirley was a member of Clements Community Club, and was known throughout the community for her chicken pot pie and caramel cakes. She was the matriarch of the family and there was a strict disciplinarian beneath that quiet and humble spirit. She was one of Georgia’s first certified medical coders and retired from Crisp Regional Hospital in that capacity. After retirement she also served on the Crisp Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by her children, Juanita Calhoun Wells and Jeffery Calhoun (Marilyn) of Cordele, and Jennifer Calhoun Majors (Rick) of Barnesville; a brother, Charles Perry of Cordele; sisters-in-law, Emily Perry, Brenda Perry and Patty Perry; grandchildren, Christopher Anderson, Josh Calhoun (Sarah), Jessica Wiley (Lee), Mathew Anderson, Sarah Shiver (Justin), Jackson Cyle Wells (Whitney), Mack Majors (Kat), Caleb Calhoun (Karen), Casie Wells, Rachel Calhoun, Rebekah DeMott (Jefferson), Kanon Majors and Sheree Perry; 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 29, 2025 at Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church with burial following in Cedar Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening February 28, 2025 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Rainey Family Funeral Services.  Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
