Betty Ann Penny Huckaby, 87, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at Crisp Regional Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home, followed by burial at Arabi Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the funeral home on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Betty was born in Crisp County, Georgia, to Wraley “Ray” Reed Penny and Carrie Verna Shell. She was the beloved wife of the late Ronald Hugh “Buck” Huckaby. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Mary Lee Tanner, Pauline Allen, Robert Penny, R.L Penny, Curtis Penny, Myrtle Sydnes, Alvin Penny, Ferrell Penny, Vernon Penny, and Iris Penny; and her grandson-in-law, Jordan Wells. Now reunited with them, she has found the peace she longed for.
A woman of great virtue, whose worth was far above rubies, Betty had a deep and unwavering love for her Lord. She was a devoted member of Open Door Assembly Church, where she faithfully served as secretary and treasurer.
Betty was known for her remarkable baking skills, and many brides chose her beautiful wedding cakes to celebrate their special day. She found joy in the beauty of God’s creation, especially the vibrant colors of flowers. She was lovingly known to her family and friends as “Mema” and “Momma.” Her kindness extended beyond her home, as she was also affectionately called “Momma” at the DFCS office where her daughter worked. Betty lived for her family, cherishing each member individually and taking immense pride in their accomplishments.
She is survived by a daughter, Jan Huckaby of Cordele; her son, Craig Huckaby and his wife Jennifer of Arabi her grandchildren: Amanda Huckaby Wells, Ashley Huckaby Carlton and her husband Ethan, Leigh Huckaby Cole and her husband Justin, and Brooke Huckaby Wilson and her husband Cole; her great-grandchildren: Lakyn Wells, Brecken Wells, Ryder Wells, Zane Wells, Jensen Carlton, Oaklyn Carlton, Crew Carlton, Hagan Cole, Linen Cole, Monroe Cole, Ellis Cole, and Penny Cole; and several nieces and nephews.
