Susan Elizabeth Hershey Cleveland was born on January 16, 1949, in Eustis, Florida, and passed away on January 24, 2025, at a brief stay at Magnolia Manor in Americas, Georgia.
She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Benjamin Cleveland of Cordele, Georgia; daughters Nikki Rhodes and Stacie Wolski; brother Jim Hershey and sister Anne Easom; sister-in-law Fran Cleveland Ervin (Guy); and brother-in-law Kenneth Cleveland, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Susan held a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and a Master’s Degree in Counseling. She was an Honor graduate. Susan was employed for many years in the University of Georgia Finance Department in Athens, Georgia. She also worked for several years at the UGA Paperless Office in Atlanta, Georgia, and for a number of years as a Counselor at Savannah River Challenge Detention Center in Sylvania, Screven Co., Georgia.
Susan was a long-time member of the Cordele First United Methodist Church.
She loved people, and especially loved working with children and helping others. Her volunteer activities included teaching children’s music, and assisting with children’s mural projects and skits.
Susan’s hobbies included painting, cooking, playing the piano, and reading. She also enjoyed outdoor activities such as camping, boating, hunting, and fishing.
Memorials donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, the First United Methodist Church of Cordele, or a charity of your choice.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
